I’m looking for some 6,7,or 8” diameter pipe to make a couple pulleys out of. I only need 7” long or so. Anybody got a hunk?

I can't remember the guys name that sells pipe in town. James at steel Inc gave me a name at n one point though. Maybe check with him. If not encore probably has it and will cut to length.. But it'd be an alloy and a mechanical tubing.

I’ve never used either style, but have watched forged in fire enough to see the merits of the knife maker style.

For the other style, what would be the advantage?

What does the drive train look like? The front wheel is obvious, but is there another tensioning wheel (ie three wheels/pulleys? Curious about Black adjustment lever in the mid-base too

Another good place to look for larger dia. pipe is Pile Driving companies, they always have cut-offs of varying dia. & lengths that just end up in a recycle bin.

I'd like pipe with a 1/4" wall or something less is fine. I'm not fussy. I'll have to weld in spokes and a hub.

You could go to princess auto and see what casters are on sale the knife sander urethane drive wheel at protospace is made from ones from there.

Not sure if you started already but this fellow made a home brew wheel including cast urethane coating. (ps don't use homebrew releasing agent like he did, you risk having curing problems)

In case you did not get already a thick walled pipe of the desired size I may have some stuff for you. To make it lighter a bit more through you would need to bore out a bigger hole through.
