I got a call from a friend last fall that he had a few dump trailer loads of logs for me for free. Last time it was all birch, so i loaded up and drove the 40km's to his place. I was all wet balsam. Man was i ever pissed.

    Parting is such sweet sorrow

I usually go fairly aggressive on the feed, 0.008" per rev or so, maybe 6-800 rpm on a 1.5-2" piece, and increase the speed a bit at the center, sometimes if finish matters. But either way, constant feed has always worked well for me rather than hand feeding.

If they are spur gears, I wouldn't worry about them until after you replace the bushings. Its probably a low pressure, low flow deal where clearances are much less critical. If the sides are chewed up, the housing will probably also require attention, which would then need wider gears to compensate

Surface Grinding Bench (Sharpening) Stones (an attempt at making precision ground flat stones)

They don't take up much room. And you can hang stuff off them, just like most of the treadmills that seemed like a great idea at the time. I use mine once a month maybe, but nothing can replace it when i need it...just like every other tool. Great for sharpening stuff too.

CA-AB Chevy GMC One Ton Axle Shafts C$25

I have annealed quite a bit of them in the woodstove. It goes from very hard to machinable pretty easy. Axles are a good source of material.

Clausing 12 x 36” metal lathe with accessories Reduced, $975, Kelfield, SK

put an ELS on it and as long as its not super worn out, it'd be a decent lathe, and a good value for the money.

Anyone have this set of Accusize 5c collets? I'd like to try them but import collets make me nervous...

    Show us your pups

We need a show your pup thread... Never seen a forum where you need to read everything posted because thread derailment is guaranteed. I like pups, so I click on a lathe chuck thread. Makes sense :D

    Stuart’s big dumb lathe

I'm somewhat disappointed in the non alcoholic beer, but the fact that you have a lathe in your front room makes up for it. I ran into an old girlfriend from 25 years ago the other day and she asked me if i still had motorcycles in my living room and drag slicks for a coffee table. Awesome lathe!

Locking lug nuts are the most useless things ever. I have a cordless impact and extractors and they normally wouldn't even slow me down. Anyone who has worked on German cars with lug bolts knows how tight normal lug bolts get over time. A bolt torqued to 80 ft/lbs feels like 200 after its been...
