Hi, my name is Marc. Been wanting a lathe ever since I can remember. 3 years ago I bought the MD45 mill, and last week put a deposit on a modern tool 14x40 lathe. I’m an auto body mechanic by trade which got me into welding, which snowballed into metal fab and so on. This is my next step. Very new to lathes but have some experience, so I’ll be asking the vets lots of questions. Seems like a great forum and really happy to have come across one with members in my area. Looking forward to my new journey!!

What a great intro. Welcome from Ontario farmland south of Chatham. Nice lathe too! You will have no trouble getting a lot of advice on here. I'll start by recommending you mortgage the house so you can buy tooling. Just kidding!

So I was on the phone with modern tool in Edmonton yesterday. The shipment of lathes is delayed once again . First delivery date was mid December . Then mid January, now it’s end of February. Oh well more time to save for tooling.

Good attitude.

Also a good time to assess what you really need to start with and trim the start-up list. Almost everyone buys a bunch of stuff that looks cool but might only get used once and then never again. Better to use that money for something REALLY useful but expensive.
