Left-field question. I picked up a oddball saw, combination mitre & table saw. I was looking for something easy to cut aluminum sheet and plastic sheet, and I don't have room for a full-size table saw. My Portaband works great, but it only has a 4" throat so not much use on larger workpieces.
So I found one of these, and it's kind of cool and fits in the same space as my existing mitre saw, so no storage problem.
So - even with a fine tooth blade, cutting aluminum is scary. The blade speed is way too high, But I have a mildly-defunct treadmill with an MC-60 PWM speed controller for a 90 VDC permanent magnet motor. Have any of you ever tried to run a universal brushed motor using a treadmill controller? On paper the MC-60 can handle the current draw.
Hopefully one of you motor control gurus can make a suggestion, before I just wire it up and see if I get magic smoke.
Thanks for any input.
