Some good links you have there. But this one idea with the magnets on micrometer to hold threading wires anvils = BAD ADVISE. You do not want to experience even partially magnetized micrometer anvils or caliper jaws on any good measuring tools. Because they will attract tiny bits of metal debris you can never wipe away & f*ck up every measurement until the magnetism wears off or you buy one of those magic demag boxes. I seem to recall a guy who de-magged his digital caliper & then had issues with his LCD readout once its north pole got blitzed. So the $ fun just keeps coming. Don't do it! Use grease like the old timers say.
