What would all that weigh? Just curious for future if I would be able to throw it in the back of my car or something like this would require a trailer.

Good question! I was wondering if I could get away with carrying it all home in my Honda Civic. I estimate the Civic has a load capacity of an extra 650 lbs. I'm guessing I would be close to or exceeding the limit.

So after some persuading he let me bring it home. It turned out to be about 450 lbs a little less than I anticipated. Easy haul for my Civic.

That’s what I’m thinking. I wasn’t able to find much on “Arctic Metal” other than modern electric guitars but I may sniff around some more. I have a Canada Metal ingot of lead here that makes a great bit of winter ballast in the truck — I think it weighs about 100lbs.

So I weighed and measured and concluded that it is indeed something like lead. Weighs about 2.24 kg and has a volume of about 222 cubic cm. For this volume Babbit would only be about 1.6kg and lead should be about 2.5kg. So it is likely some alloy of lead that is close to pure lead.

Interesting, and nice work on the calculations. I’m no expert in babbitt but I think there’s a number of different alloys and mixes that were used depending on the application. Still couldn’t find anything on the foundry but I’m sure there were a ton of them out east.
