Craftex b227l qctp Mounting

Hi Everyone,

I have a Craftex B227L that I want to mount an Accusize AXA qctp on. Of course the Craftex compounds don't have a T-slot, so a work around must be done. I've looked up videos and threads of this process which include making sleeves, new studs, welding bolts, but haven't found a clear winner yet. I know there are a few guys with this lathe on the forum, what did you use to mount the qctp?

Thanks!

I turned down the boss on the compound slide to fit the qctp. My 10x22 lathe also needed a bit of height reduction on the slide to fit the AXA tool holders properly.

The other good solution is to elimante the compound altogether and make a solid tool post mount.

This is mine post #24 has pictures same approach, my height was ok. Its been very solid and haven't any issues I used Loctite on the threads and have been using it ever since. @trlvn did a great job on his as well I believe the compound on the 706 is very similar to the 2227L.

I saw that thread, I think yours is the cleanest install that I've seen out there. Did you use the 14mm stud that comes with the qctp, or did you make one? Did you fill the recess on the top side?

A solid tool post is certainly on the project list as well!

You could make a new 14mm stud with the base of it filling the recess on the top slide and it could also thread into the top slide at the same time.

I've helped 3 others do what you are doing now.

It was as simple as making a new bolt to replace the old one.

I just modified an existing bolt head and shaft to fit the compound and the Tool Post. Worked great!

Be aware that the thread on the BBee bolt is metric.

I recommend waiting till after the handle is timed to pin the bolt head so the handle ends up in the right place.

The alternative is to cut a bolt longer than needed and make a new taller nut that can be skimmed to set the timing. That will also leave room for a second retaining handle - a nice operational upgrade.

I made two the first one was temp to aid in making the final one, and yes it was the stud that came with my qctp and filled the recess, so the threads start at the top to help make it a bit more rigid. I milled out a bit of the cross slide to give it more meat on the post I didn't use the original base I made one as I had a piece that required less milling to get to the final product than the bigger one that came with the post.
