    Thread dial gear

How do you know it ever had one? My old 1800's Reed lathe, which was also an old line drive unit, never did have one. I cut all kinds of threads on it by leaving the half nut engaged. I still do that today on my newer gear head lathe with metric threads and also very fine threads where I don't...

    Taper

These normal torque forces are not really minor and neither are the tool pressure forces - both of which must be reacted by the chuck. However, when cutting a test bar or taper to evaluate alignment we always take really light skim cuts which actually are relatively minor. The test the OP did...

    Wanted: parallels 0.1", 0.2" 0.25"

I don't think so Craig. Kind of defeats the purpose of a thin parallel in my mind. I have 1/4 and 1/8 - never wanted more. Those few times I needed something, I made something or figured out another way. Wavy is prolly cheaper than 1/2 though.

    Costco pumpkin pie

I am not a fan of M&M Meats. Just the pie. I know it's actually a Chudleigh Pie. Worth every penny. We buy them by the flat. The Apple Crumble pie is also amazing.

    Costco pumpkin pie

The best pumpkin pie in the world is sold at M&M Meats. Not too spicy and won't give you heartburn. Tastes like a slice of heaven. Highly recommended. Add Kawartha vanilla ice-cream or real whipped cream for those who like that.

Believe it or not, home depot has 1/4" parallel sets.

    Auction....Gold? Deal or no deal?

This is always gunna happen. Especially to those of us who are driven by curiosity and the desire to learn new things. If I had a buck for everytime somebody poopood my efforts to measure in sub tenths and work in tenths I'd be a millionaire. Some guys just make stuff. Some guys collect stuff...

    Tool Test Bar

I can't help with everything but hopefully the following is useful. I routinely check for "ground bar" and "straight edge" - prolly for the same reasons that you do. They are not common, but I did get a 24" 1/2x2 straight edge on Kijiji that had belonged to a master machinist before he passed...
