Where is the cheapest metal supplier in Calgary?

No argument there. I'm going to watch the new ownership at Steel Inc and see what they do and it may be another option to Federal and they might start carrying stock that Federal doesn't.

Where is the cheapest metal supplier in Calgary?

Just came back from Steel Inc. James has sold the business to a father and son combo who will be taking over sometime in October. I met the father (Mike). They will continue to carry what James has there now but maybe expand the selection once they get settled. The son is a welder so it might...

    Wanted - lathe chuck

Thanks Dabbler. I'm more looking for a perhaps an almost-throw-away that someone might have and wanting to get rid of it for cheap. It only needs to hold with a few lbs of pressure as a positioner is nothing but a turntable. Thanks for the link though. I keep my eye on kijiji but nothing has...

    Wanted - lathe chuck

Hi all, I'm building a hobby-duty weld positioner and looking for any chuck to put on the platten. Wood lathe chuck, machine lathe chuck, whatever. Let me know if you have anything that might work. I'm thinking 4-6" max. Thanks. Mark

    Heat treating 01 tool steel

Thanks guys. Yeah, the torches are always the way but I was hoping to finding someone with an oven for maximum control and hardness and maybe minimize warpage that can result from uneven heating. I'll probably make myself a tiny forge with the light white bricks and give it a go. Cheers.

Heating a garage - Infrared, innovative or terrible idea?

Just to add my experience which is similar to the others. I built a detached garage and for heat I went with the Mr Heater Big Maxx 70kBTU unit. Love it and I've had it since 2011. Bought 50' of 1" plastic yellow gas pipe and two risers (around $300 in 2011) and was planning on...

    Heat treating 01 tool steel

Hi team, Just wondering if anyone has a high temp oven or know someone who does, to harden 01 tool steel? It needs to get to critical temp of 1350-1400F for 15-20mins. I would greatly appreciate any leads. Its a one-of project for me, so don't really feel like building a forge or a home made...
