How to blow an entire day drilling 6 holes.

I went with 5/16" holes but 1/4" is probably fine

How to blow an entire day drilling 6 holes.

I'm away from home right now ND only have my phone so it's a bit of a struggle to post a bunch of photos. This is link to the album the photos are in, I hope. https://johnconroy.smugmug.com/Milling-vise-pallet/n-GJNQvJ/i-QzLgf9K

Want to buy an arbor press- Alberta

I'm looking to buy an arbor press in the 3 to 5 ton range. I'm in the Edmonton area but will travel reasonable distance to pick up if needed.

    Sine Plate Roll Pin Enagement

You got quite a bargain. Suburban makes nice stuff. I have one of their angle plates and it is very accurate.

Set screws: cup to dog point

A lot of the projects I do require me to shorten or modify screws and bolts. As Torin said, carbide insert tooling makes this job easy. Over the years I have made a series of threaded holders for fasteners of various sizes. They are made from 1.375" round hot roll. I make the depth of thread in...

    New to me 6" X 48" belt sander/ 9" disc sander

That's the same one i was looking at at KMS Tom. The motors on these sanders live a hard life, mine has a non-original motor.

    New to me 6" X 48" belt sander/ 9" disc sander

Great little snowblower for sure. I had no idea there was a forum, I'll check it out.

    Allen wrenches (aka hex keys)

That's right, i have both ball end and regular sets for that reason.

    Allen wrenches (aka hex keys)

I like this style. Klein makes good tools. Ball end ones are great if you have to work at an angle other than 90 degrees but they can't provide as much torque to the fastener without stripping out the socket head.

    New to me 6" X 48" belt sander/ 9" disc sander

Most of them can work either way. This one is very versatile because you can switch the rest from disc to belt positions. The belt can set at any angle between horizontal and vertical by loosening 2 hex head bolts.

    New to me 6" X 48" belt sander/ 9" disc sander

About half the price of this similar designed one from KMS https://m.kmstools.com/king-canada-6-x-48-belt-disc-sander-5767

    New to me 6" X 48" belt sander/ 9" disc sander

I've been looking to buy decent belt sander for a while now and found this really nicely kept USA made vintage Craftsman on Kijiji. It works extremely well. The rest is very robust and can be installed on either the belt or disc positions. All the parts are cast iron and it's very heavy. I...

Nice job Tom. I'm still collecting material for my press project. What size is the C channel you used?

    Gravity vs Measurements

Makes perfect sense when you think about it and good to keep in mind when ever we use an indicator for comparison measurements. Thanks for posting that Peter.

Anyone own a GH1440W lathe from Modern Tools or a PM1440HD from Precision Matthews?

To carve the indicator grooves in the thimble on my carriage stop I made an attachment for the end of the spider. It's just a hub that mounts into the end of the spider and can be set to any position and locked with the set screws. I mounted a degree wheel to the hub and made up a pointer. I...

Anyone own a GH1440W lathe from Modern Tools or a PM1440HD from Precision Matthews?

It really depends on how much precision I'm looking for. I work with 1/2" round stock alot and i like to leave the stock as long as possible to reduce waste. Most of the time I'm just looking to keep it from flopping around so I just eye ball it. Installing the change gears for metric threads...

Anyone own a GH1440W lathe from Modern Tools or a PM1440HD from Precision Matthews?

I machined a spider for the left end of the spindle. It has 53mm X 1.5 threads so I single pointed the treads into a sleeve and then welded the new nut to another sleeve with an ID matching the ID of the spindle. It has a shoulder that butts against the end of the spindle and engages 4 threads...

Anyone own a GH1440W lathe from Modern Tools or a PM1440HD from Precision Matthews?

The threads on the thimble are 7/16" 20 tpi so each revolution gives .050" of adjustment. I machined 10 grooves around the circumference of the thimble end, each long groove indicates .010" and the short ones are .005" increments.

Anyone own a GH1440W lathe from Modern Tools or a PM1440HD from Precision Matthews?

I don't like the bed mounted carriage stop so I made up an improved version of the one I made for my old lathe, which is a copy of a Hardinge design. In the last pic you can see that the old carriage stop prevents the carriage from moving close to the headstock. The new one is much easier to...
