Milling machines, what to buy/look for

That is an option i'm considering. What's involved? Is it a matter of just changing the "jumpers" cant remember the name to run on 230 or do most need to be swapped to a 230 motor? And what would a vf cost approx. for a Bridgeport etc machine?

Milling machines, what to buy/look for

Thanks for the replies so far. Some excellent information in the guide, read and skimmed through it but will be looking closer later. I may have some parallels.. grandfather was a machinist but passed before I was of age to really appreciate his knowledge. I may have some endmills from him...

Milling machines, what to buy/look for

Last year I bought a standard modern 11x20 lathe. Played around and made some pins and bushings etc, odd jobs nothing too complicated. I've been wanting a mill as well. Seems there mostly large 3 phases 575 or quite small benchtop machines not much in between. I have 240v available and at the...

Plasma cutters, which kind do you have and does it perform to your satisfaction.

I use my Dads thermal dynamics pak master 75xl I think it is. 55 amps, bigger old machine on wheels, not like the small ones these days. Works great, consumables pricey though. If I were to replace it I'd likely look log and hard at a hypertherm 45. Or a new thermal dynamics around the 40-50...

    Argon in GTA

How much welding do you do? It angers me it's basically 2 companies run the whole thing. Messer and Air Liquide. Any smaller shop usually deals with the 2 big companies bottles. My dad used to run a small weld shop and was with praxair, leased bottles but just cost of business. Now we have a...

What air compressor CFM and reservoir size needed to run a 50 amp plasma cutter

I admit I didn't read all the replies. I think I'd still look into a bigger compressor. The cost to get the cylinder of nitrogen and reoccurring costs for refills and the annual lease are well on your way to a bigger compressor. Even if you have to get a water and oil separator. We have always...

    Bought a standard modern 11" series 2000

Winner! Went back out and looked and I was indeed using the wrong lever. Handle was missing on it. Was missing the handle on the feed lever as well when I got it.

    Bought a standard modern 11" series 2000

so spent some time on the lathe. No serious projects yet. But I tried to do some threads.. I set the threading gearbox as the chart shows, as well as the course fine selector but it seems to be cutting twice as many tpi as the chart indicates, I even set it for half the TPI and it's a lot closer...
