• Hi - We're having intermittent forum issues. Posts, alerts, and anything involving email like signing up or password changes are having problems but not for everyone or everywhere. Josh is working on it. No ETA right now. Thanks Josh - BTW this is a volunteer forum so SLA's are just best effort. EDIT -> I manually batch updated about 25 people stuck on the email notification. Try logging in now with your password. EDIT -> May 8/23. I updated another bunch of users stuck on email notifications. Try to login if you are stuck. If you really can't get in contact us on facebook or if you know a forum member get them to ask us.

Tips/Techniques Parasitic Draw of Cordless Tools

I have the equipment to measure up to 400 amps DC, I just need to get a couple of full pin out sleds for either end to use. I have a two pin sled for the battery side, but it's missing the pins for the other sensing wires which means I can't use it directly on the tools (was for my RC build last...

Probably a cell is gone in some of those batteries.

Tips/Techniques Parasitic Draw of Cordless Tools

There's a bit of circuitry before the trigger, like the low voltage cutoff which is in the tools for Dewalt rather than the battery pack, that is always there drawing a little tiny smidge of power.

Tips/Techniques Parasitic Draw of Cordless Tools

Came up on another forum I'm on, whether you should leave your cordless tool batteries connected because they'd get drawn down...so busted out the meter and took some measurements: Interesting to see how much of a difference they can have....anywhere from a couple microamps, all the way up...

    Car Rust

This is true of rubberized or permanent undercoatings...things like fluid film or krown don't have this problem.

    How Kodak film is made.

I've watched all three...Destin is one of my fave YouTubers to watch.

    Car Rust

Fluid Film is a rust proofing coating. Por-15 I was suggesting is the metal prep, neutralizes rust and etches the metal to prepare it for a coating.

    Car Rust

Would probably depend on the sprayer...but I have a 60 gallon IR 5hp 2 stage, so it's not like I'm ever going to have air issues. Given that it doesn't run as often doing underbody spray as it does when I use a die grinder, I'd imagine you could get away with doing it on one of those ~5 CFM...

    Car Rust

Zero drips, very clean. Most people complain about the smell, but doesn't bother me at all. Watch the video link I posted above, it's how I've done it.

    Car Rust

I spray it with an underbody sprayer...but I suppose you could brush it on, it just wouldn't get inside all the little nooks and crannies.

    Car Rust

Fluid Film is just lanolin base, I buy it by the gallon for vehicle use...no thinning or any other stuff to do.

    Car Rust

Fluid Film is my usual go-to car rust proofing... This looks past that though, probably needs some POR-15 and some paint. Though better would be cutting out the rusted crap, welding in new material, bondo/filler, then the usual paint steps for cars.

Product Princess Auto tool box quality

I bought mine from Kitchener Steel Services, they delivered 24' sticks directly to my curb (with no delivery charge), was $145/stick in Nov 2021. This was most of the steel I used for my lathe stand, new shelving, and mill stand....I had a bit of on hand before I started and I have a bit left...

Finished Basement - Big 2023 Project

Well...my big (huge) project for 2023 is on, finishing my basement finally. I originally had planned to start in 2020, but well, something happened in the world that got in the way. Finally material prices are starting to get back to "normal"ish so decided it was time. It's going to be a total...

    Supplies KBC shipping

I agree, everything I've ordered from KBC has come overnight...this is awesome, but I'd trade lower shipping costs for waiting a few days.
  19. SomeGuy

    Supplies KBC shipping

Yup, this is my problem...when the shipping cost is 50%+ of the item being ordered, it's a non-starter if I have alternate places to source it from (even if it's a lower quality item). Hobby machinists aren't frequently placing $1000+ orders, it's get that one insert or bit or whatever to do the...

    CA-AB Amazon prices

$600 higher on a $10 item or a $10,000 item? Either way, comparing CA to US is a problem at literally all retailers.

    CA-AB Amazon prices

It was a big thing some years ago...I seem to remember some lawsuits and such? Regardless, prices can change by the minute, see that all the time, but not consistently different between two browsers or logged in or incognito or anything else.
  22. SomeGuy

    CA-AB Amazon prices

This is not entirely true, they no longer do individual pricing per user (was true in the past). And incognito isn't going to stop them seeing more people looking at a product page and modifying the demand. I did a video on some ways I use to find deals still:

Tools you waited too long to acquire

Lisle Exhaust Hanger Pliers...I was like, no way I'm spending $35 (at the time) on a pair of pressed/stamped hacky looking pliers. Turns out, they are worth every penny if you do as much as one exhaust system swap.

My bank uses cookies, clearly spies on me like everyone else, so why the hell.....

Pretty much every website ever uses cookies, the fact that they're telling you now is due to some stupid regulation in Europe, not all of them are used for tracking/advertising purposes....frankly I'd be happier if they just stopped telling us.

Marking out on mild steel with mill scale- good markers?

Uh I said as much for a fence... I use a dry cut saw, I don't measure stock to blade, I mark the stock and align blade to mark, I am accurate and fast. This goes for most mild steel tube work, dry cut/cold cut are the most common tools by far. Just going through the list of tools though...
  29. SomeGuy

Marking out on mild steel with mill scale- good markers?

Uh, not exactly. You can put a mark exactly where the cut needs to be made (at least to visible accuracy) and then align the blade to the mark. Trying to measure from the blade on anything handheld or where the blade moves (chop saw, horizontal bandsaw, etc.) you cannot accurately measure off...

Marking out on mild steel with mill scale- good markers?

I use a sharpie, often coloured, does the job...I just take into account the line thickness when I'm marking and know to cut either on the edge of the line or split the line or whatever. This is if you need better than say 1/8" accuracy with your cuts, since sharpie lines are thick. Otherwise...
