• Hi - We're having intermittent forum issues. Posts, alerts, and anything involving email like signing up or password changes are having problems but not for everyone or everywhere. Josh is working on it. No ETA right now. Thanks Josh - BTW this is a volunteer forum so SLA's are just best effort. EDIT -> I manually batch updated about 25 people stuck on the email notification. Try logging in now with your password. EDIT -> May 8/23. I updated another bunch of users stuck on email notifications. Try to login if you are stuck. If you really can't get in contact us on facebook or if you know a forum member get them to ask us.

    Ugh, Mondays.....

The old CRT Haas machines have a pot to adjust the brightness. I wonder if your VF5 has anything like that. Not sure where you are located but in calgary we can get a repair guy from Tomas Skinner over to look at our little TM2P in just a couple hours.

    Tormach or Hass

I would also vote for Hass. HASS, Milltronics and Hurco are all good for start up companies. Tormach and Syil make slightly cheaper options with way less capabilities.

    Sourcing Metal | General Discussion

Susquatch hit the nail right on the head. Doing inventory is expensive for any size business. Maintaining traceability through every step of the manufacturing process is expensive. Storing material safely is expensive, most businesses need to compare the cost of buying new material with storing...

    Windows-11

The only subscriptions I have are my Google one account and fusion360 both made the switch to windows 11 without me having to do anything

    Windows-11

I run windows 11 on my desktop. I built my own computer too. I don't mind messing around to get things configured the way I want them. The biggest difference I noticed is splitting the screen into multiple windows is easier. Also you can add or remove displays while windows is running and it...

What did you do for a career and would you pick it again?

I am a machinist, it is pretty fun. It is also a timed event so you need to get excited about working quickly. I work with engineers and draftsman who come down to the shop and actually make stuff. It helps them learn to design better parts. It is also a good way to take a break from the...

What CNC programming software do you use ?

I used this chuck because it was already in the mill.

What CNC programming software do you use ?

On windows 11 when you press windows G you get capture options from the windows game bar. This is just a bracket to mount a mirror on a classic car. The material is the round stock you and Josh Bought years ago. I will part this off on the lathe after the milling is done. Then it will get...

What CNC programming software do you use ?

I am working on a project in fusion 360 right now. I did a screen capture of the simulation. I'll post it up here just in case you wanna see what the simulation looks like. There's no audio but enjoy.

    Tips/Techniques Hydraulic Rod

Low sfm. 70sfm works good for what I am cutting. That means a 1.5" rod would machine well at 180rpm. Keep the feed rate high. Ten or fourteen tho. Per revolution. The hard exterior is chrome on the rods I am machining and is about .125 thick.

    Tips/Techniques Hydraulic Rod

I can probably help with this. I machine hydraulic rods at my day job. The Secret is to try and get under the hard outer layer in one pass at low speed and then the center part of the rod is actually pretty soft. On a 3.25" rod I take .25" off in the first pass at 80 rpm with a sandvik CNMG...

What CNC programming software do you use ?

We use GibbsCam, the previous shop I was at was Esprit Cam, and the job Before that was Mastercam. All are very capable. I am a fusion user at home. I have be using Fusion for 8 years now. Fusion 360 has come a long way so anything I said years ago has possibly changed.

    Drones.

I am definitely trying! I have a Blade 230s. I split my time flying in Real Flight using VR and my dx7 controller. Then I can take the same controller to the field and attempt my maneuvers with the actual Helicopter.

    Drones.

I have an older mavic Mini that I've logged 140 hours of flight time on now. You can follow me on Instagram at yycdroneguy. I do slightly prefer the challenge of flying 3-D hellies

    CNC 4th Axis

Alright this works! Now I need to figure out how to adjust the steps. The power supply I have for bench testing things will be good enough for now. I didn't try DC power because I believe my driver is actually a cheaper hb860 labeled as the more expensive hybrid version. That is about what I...

    CNC 4th Axis

I attached some pictures of my first two stepper projects I completed tonight. One rotates the stepper back and forth one turn and the other rotates the stepper with a 10k potentiometer. I learned a little bit with these tiny parts and I'll try to apply that to the large Microstep Driver over...

    CNC 4th Axis

I had to Google what you were referring to. I am not exactly sure how I am going to use this just yet. I kind of want to try direct drive, timing belts or worm and worm wheel. Might test it on a big rotary table first. To see how that works

    CNC 4th Axis

Although that has the same name. I dont think it is the same part. the manual talks about the closed loop system with encoder. I dont have any of that.

    CNC 4th Axis

The good news is the program and the number pad work. The bad news is I ordered a DC power supply but this stepper driver is AC Doh! This Microstep Driver also has the inputs labeled differently than the one in Arduino table for dummies guide . I'm hoping it will just work? This might be wishful...

Yes and as a side note rideable replicas made my bicycle, it very well could have been Greg himself!

    CNC 4th Axis

I got my new screen. As soon as I opened it I realized my mistake. The LCD I was trying to use for the tutorial was smaller than it should have been. Once I had the right parts the tutorial @Johnwa shared was easy. Doh! Next step is wiring up a keypad. I have two! Just like before the one I...

I soldered these parts together but I can not get an address on the serial monitor. I think ill order another I2c display this time ill get one which is pre assembled.

    CNC 4th Axis

I am starting this project back up. I started following the tutorial @Johnwa linked. Realized my LCD and controller aren't soldered together yet. I'm not very good at soldering but I'll try. If it doesn't turn out good I'll buy the one that is already soldered together

I don't have enough info to say but if you have the solid model I can add the tool path and we will get a pretty good idea of how long the cycle time will be
