• Hi - We're having intermittent forum issues. Posts, alerts, and anything involving email like signing up or password changes are having problems but not for everyone or everywhere. Josh is working on it. No ETA right now. Thanks Josh - BTW this is a volunteer forum so SLA's are just best effort. EDIT -> I manually batch updated about 25 people stuck on the email notification. Try logging in now with your password. EDIT -> May 8/23. I updated another bunch of users stuck on email notifications. Try to login if you are stuck. If you really can't get in contact us on facebook or if you know a forum member get them to ask us.

    What's Paul up to?

Delivery today. [Edit:] A bit of testing says that yes, the mill is getting the TouchDRO, and the lathe gets the HS800 currently on the mill. That will let me combine (or not) my quill Z and knee Z on the mill, and honestly, I do the fancier work there, so tthe TouchDRO interface will be...

Repair a very old vertical drilling machine

One of these things is not like the others, and yet...

    What's Paul up to?

I did 1/2" so I'd have decent holding in threaded holes. 3/8" would have been much more reasonable. Though I'm really happy with the sheer mass of the resulting bench.

    What's Paul up to?

Last spring, IIRC. Steel is pretty variable these days :-(

    What's Paul up to?

Who did you call? I did better than that for the whole half-sheet delivered. (hardcore metals)

    What's Paul up to?

While I'm at it - anybody know what this stuff is called? Some form of modular warehouse stuff, I have an actual useful amount of it.

    What's Paul up to?

I've often wondered how people wound up with these kinds of things. Patience and being ready when the opportunity presents itself.

    What's Paul up to?

This followed me home today: It's at the very limits of what my little tractor's loader could curl and drag back from my neighbor's place. The scalloped angles, salvaged from I don't know what, are 1/2". The whole thing must weigh about 800lbs. I figure it will hold my larger leg vise...

Hardinge HLV-H Lathe $10K North Saanich BC

I could keep this one in my city shop and take the CX701 to the country....hmmm

Grade B gauge block set $30 Toronto

OOh, still in the grease paper. I have a compulsive unwrapping habit.

I found their assembly video. Check out the jump-cut: https://youtube.com/clip/Ugkx1O3YNbAt9thxwMillX7iguOpPyhNilnl

    What's Paul up to?

Yeah, at the cabin this would have totally been a job for the loader. In the city, not so much. Anyhow, this little trailer will let me get some much needed supplies to the island - deer fencing, a new anvil, a little lathe if I can find one - and get my years of accumulated debris hauled away...

    What's Paul up to?

    Yes, quite explicitly.

    What's Paul up to?

The assembly instructions start with it upside down so you can bolt on the springs and axle. It's all simple except that one step. I don't even know how two men could do it safely.

    What's Paul up to?

I wish this was an update about my lathe DRO install, but instead it's another episode of "do stupid things, win stupid prizes!" It appears that I won no prizes, however. This is "Step 8. Turn the trailer over." I have no idea how this is supposed to be done. And step 8.5: On the way back...

No luck required: slow and steady wins the race. Avoid having too many cooks in the kitchen.

My little power hammer was delivered on a welded steel pallet. That thing was *secure* on there.

    DavidR8's shop shenanigans

I've been getting mine together as well. Going with the tape version, and mine fits between the ways, under the ground surface. You can just make it out in this photograph - the tape is self-adhesive and comes with the stainless steel cover strip. The head itself will ride on the fasteners...

    Machine Machine moving

No, mine is the smaller model. The smaller one slings around the top assembly, just at the dovetails, and balances beautifully there - I can lift it with the gantry and it's less than 1/2" off-kilter. (Edit:) It's the LC-1 1/2 that I have. Same as @technico

    Vehicle Replaced Coil Springs: Uses?

Leaf or coil, pretty much any blacksmith will take them off your hands. Good carbon content, convenient size.

Does anyone have experience reading digital signals to reverse engineer digital control device?

Yeah, I have the saleae logic analyzer. That thing is pure magic. My hurdle is getting over doing the work in the hall where the thermostat is installed. Excuses, excuses.

Does anyone have experience reading digital signals to reverse engineer digital control device?

I hate my Hitachi heat pump and it's proprietary protocol and user-hostile controls. Time to dig for some hobbyist who has hated it even more than me, sooner.

Help with threading on a cx709

Are you reversing with the motor or with the gearbox? The gearbox is *not* repeatable. You must reverse with the motor.

Cross slide milling vise - $25 Victoria

The first time I saw this little vice, some 6 months ago, he wanted $125, IIRC. It's a much better deal now.

That's barely west! I think it's a shorter drive for some of the Ontario folks! [Ok, ok, it's SK not MB]

Product Micro DRO ideal for tiny machines, and embedded cross slide scales

Yeah, I'm all set up for SMT work at home as well. And I'm seeing short runs with 2 day turnarounds at ludicrously low prices now. Why didn't we do this thinking at the start of winter instead of the start of summer?

Product Micro DRO ideal for tiny machines, and embedded cross slide scales

Short run PCBs are so cheap now, and there's so few components to a read head.... I need to retire so I can do this stuff.
