• Hi - We're having intermittent forum issues. Posts, alerts, and anything involving email like signing up or password changes are having problems but not for everyone or everywhere. Josh is working on it. No ETA right now. Thanks Josh - BTW this is a volunteer forum so SLA's are just best effort. EDIT -> I manually batch updated about 25 people stuck on the email notification. Try logging in now with your password. EDIT -> May 8/23. I updated another bunch of users stuck on email notifications. Try to login if you are stuck. If you really can't get in contact us on facebook or if you know a forum member get them to ask us.

    Heading East! Ya Mule Ya!

Made the trip last Tuesday, off loaded the house stuff and then went at the shop. Ran into a mold issue in the back corner. As you can see below: Pulled the insulation an bleached the whole wall. Scrubbed down things and set the fan to dry. Re-vapour barrier the “good” walls and began to...

    Heading East! Ya Mule Ya!

Arrived last night at the new palace. Servants left lights off and road salt made visibility shite! Off loading today. Drive was clear and no issue except for a couple road rage asses in Riviere Du Loupe that thought it best to brake check each other and then cut within inches of my bow...

    ? for the woodworkers here

Late to the party but this should be adequate as a push block: https://www.busybeetools.com/products/grr-ripper-basic.html I have been building with wood since 1993 and have a Delta Unisaw I bought new in 1995. The Unifence is great. I am not a good one to discuss safety on the saw with as I...

    Really basic lathe question

Lathe “shafts” - lead screw for threading and sometimes feeding -Feed screw: drives a separate set of gears in the apron to feed the lathe at particular selection - third rod, typically a square profile and just lets the user select FWD, stop and REV. The control handle rides along with the...

    Standard modern 1230 utilathe… value?

The line pointed at - is that scoring? The circled area where the tail stock slides looks rather poor? I have all the conversion details to convert to metric for these lathes. There is a yoke assembly that fits to the gearbox and a couple gears required- i drew a bunch of stuff up in CAD...

Thanks for the info! A Captain’s chair would be nice - have to re-name it the “Chief’s Chair” I am always hand drawing stuff, still have all my instruments from high school and University/ College. The table will be great in the shop for keeping plans in view and to sketch quick ideas.

    Heading East! Ya Mule Ya!

So I picked up this nice drafting table for $250 - not a machinery tool but in excellent condition with imperial scales. Should be a slick addition to the new shop. I can work in CAD etc but find hand drawings sometimes way faster and the table allows for displaying projects underway...

@Chicken lights : once cleaned up we can re-finish them. Storage should be dry and somewhat climate stable. Just gotta keep the hot/cold and humidity gradual in change.

    Fixing/cleaning up wood

Hey @Chicken lights : hit them with a spray of bleach and water (mild mix) to kill any mold/bacteria, light sand after wiping things. If you want to re-coat things, come up and we can spray them to a new look. I am planning a trip to NB first couple weeks of April. If you have the time...

@CWret - LOL, right now I have a shop and snow to plow - seems like an even trade- however: Cons of new shop: - need to run power and outlets - need to complete vapour barrier and strapping - need to sheet the walls and ceiling - need to add a source of heat - need to add source of light and...

    Heading East! Ya Mule Ya!

@Susquatch the only problem is that the road (our driveway) is not our property, it is the Ministry of Transports and they don’t/won’t plow that road piece so we have to. We are actually having to change address March 20th because the house was not on the 911 listing. - not something you want...

My set up will be a back (3 point) blower with the front bucket. Blow the fresh and ready snow off as far as possible and scrape it down with the bucket. Biggest problem this year : boy is alone and has 4x4 with good snow tires - starts work early. Packed snow down. Then it rained and...

    Heading East! Ya Mule Ya!

Departed at about 2:30 am. And arrived home in Ontario about 6:20 pm. Drive was pretty straight forward, just one guy in Riviere du Loup with a death wish. I think Yield signs in Quebec have a different meaning than other places - not sure? Anyway, basement is insulated, out electrical boxes...
