• Hi - We're having intermittent forum issues. Posts, alerts, and anything involving email like signing up or password changes are having problems but not for everyone or everywhere. Josh is working on it. No ETA right now. Thanks Josh - BTW this is a volunteer forum so SLA's are just best effort. EDIT -> I manually batch updated about 25 people stuck on the email notification. Try logging in now with your password. If you really can't get in contact us on facebook or if you know a forum member get them to ask us.

    Gear for threading dial

I started with the 1/2" ACME all thread. OD is 0.497" for the 10 TPI stuff. The one I made has an OD of 0.506" and in the plastic just cut that little bit deeper and smoother as the rolled ACME all thread has a ridge in the middle of the crest of the tooth. It's not that hard to cut an ACME...

    Gear for threading dial

Found the taps. The ACME allthread worked but not as well as the custom one. But I think for a threading indicator cut with the tap in the lathe and cutting the thread like a worm gear tilted slightly should work. Here's also a photo of the two plastic pieces with screws to separate them for...

    Gear for threading dial

Yes. Mine also has a slight incline rather than square on. For the CNC Router I used ACME threaded rod for the Z and made a tap for the nylon nut block. However it ended up being undersize and not working well. So instead I made my own.

    AXA tool holders

Alright. So I printed a couple of these. One on the old Cartesian and one on the POS Delta. \ It's clear that to do the open long strings without support requires a fan blowing on the filament which the POS doesn't have. I printed the yellow POS version on a raft since it's not a glass...

    Gear for threading dial

Also just for information: My South Bend has a 10 TPI lead screw (0.1" crest to crest) and the threading dial has 32 teeth. Since it tracks across the lead screw the pitch of the gear is also 0.1" between teeth which would make the outer circumference 3.2". There are 4 numbers on the dial...

    ELS Electronic Lead Screw Concept

Nice machine. Interesting seeing carpet in your wood shop area. The difference between the buttons you bought and the thousands I have in stock is that yours have flat tops while mine are slightly domed. At some point (project #42) I had planned to use my CNC router to engrave the button...

Shop Adding 240V circuit to detached garage that already has 120V circuit?

For the system to work the medical appointment location will also have charging facilities. So now you are looking at a two hour drive in one direction. The fear of Lithium systems is because they don't work well below zero. It's handled by heating the batteries. But not well addressed...

Shop Adding 240V circuit to detached garage that already has 120V circuit?

I think all the newer houses are at least wired with a large enough service for charging. There may well be a market for iPhone (home network of some sort) transfer switches which select either the Stove (40A) or the Car Charger. Might even be intelligent enough so that when plug in the car...

Shop Adding 240V circuit to detached garage that already has 120V circuit?

I'll add my two cents here. As I understand it the majority of older houses (pre 1970) are connected with a 100A service. Ours was. (Our little house in Edmonton had a 60A breaker). When I upgraded our kitchen we had BC Hydro run new wires to the house and an electrical firm came and...

3d slicers - are there any with better object level print control

Yes. You need an enclosure if you want to reliably print anything above PLA.

Electronic lead screw ELS - Rocketronics solution on Modern Tool C0636 lathe

And here's a novel method that might work from the back as easily as from the front. I don't think Jack Churchwood had a face plate so that area under the chuck was never used.

Electronic lead screw ELS - Rocketronics solution on Modern Tool C0636 lathe

Here's a photo of something similar to what you are doing. The motor doesn't stick out as far as in your version and it's just a metal plate with spacers. Sometimes it's easier to mount the motor on the front. Especially if backsplash space is an issue...

Electronic lead screw ELS - Rocketronics solution on Modern Tool C0636 lathe

The reason my friend Joe made a metal case for our harmonic drive experiment is because he found the motor heat melted the PLA. Of course a higher temperature plastic is always better anyway with a hot motor. But stepper motors are allowed to get hot enough so you can't hold onto them...

KBC Tools net 30 account offer

I suspect that if you have a business account that you'd settle it with a cheque once per month. Given the costs to the retailer for credit or bank cards cashing a cheque is less expensive.. Remember, 3% on $100 is $3. Might not seem like a lot but multiply that by 100 customers and it's a...

Electronic lead screw ELS - Rocketronics solution on Modern Tool C0636 lathe

Be careful. Stepper motors and 3D printed plastic don't get along well. Depending on your motor driver and the holding current fall back setting you will likely find the mounting frame changing shape.

    ELS Electronic Lead Screw Concept

The original box has a slight recess resulting in a ridge along the top and bottom edges. And the sides slope up and away. So it's hard to catch the edge of the mylar overlay. I'm pretty sure I used spray glue almost 15 years ago. And I've had to clean it a number of times to get the gunge...

Looking for some help with mach 3

Pretty sure the PWM base frequency is in kHz not Hz but if you are using a smooth stepper then 50kHz shouldn't be a problem as long as your kernel speed is also high enough. I was running a 25kHz kernel speed on the parallel port so getting the 25kHz PWM isn't an issue. And you didn't say...

    ELS Electronic Lead Screw Concept

Yes. I don't think that's the underlying question though although perhaps I'm overthinking it. I've been working on a code upgrade for my ELS that let's it put out a PWM pulse rate on DB25-1 compatible with that little MACH3 Cheap Chinese BoB. The software is far enough along that the some...

    ELS Electronic Lead Screw Concept

No my ELS uses the lead screw for both threading and turning. If you want to bore or do an internal thread to a precise depth without panic near the end of the hole on each pass an ELS or CNC is wonderful because you have that precise position control that you don't have with a clutch drive...

    ELS Electronic Lead Screw Concept

My older south bend uses the key slot in the lead screw to turn the gears in the apron. A clutch wheel engages thise gears and the lever for powered lead screw or cross slide remains in neutral. The newer lathes went to two shafts. Normally electronic gearing or electonic lead screws are not...

    ELS Electronic Lead Screw Concept

Most of the Electronic Gearing pretending to be an Electronic Lead Screw takes high rate encoder pulses from the spindle and Multiplie/Divide by a ratio and use the result to step the motor connected to the lead screw. The half nut remains engaged. For example say you get 800 pulses per rev...

Magnum 48” Box &Pan Brake $350 Surrey BC

My 12" from PA was a POS. One day I'll restart the rebuild after project #42 which is the table to hold my 3:1 sheet metal tool along with 3 ton arbor press and the corner notcher.
